History background on the scientist

  • Thomas didn't use any tools for the Plum Pudding model he used his ideas.
  • Thomson  suggested that atoms did not have many electrons..To express his idea, Thomson invented the "Plum Pudding" model.

  •  The model show, the atom In Thomson's mathematical model the   electrons also know as the"corpuscles" were arranged not randomly, in  a rotating rings.

Experimental design/data collection

JJ Thomson was born 18 December 1856 in Britain. He is known for discovering electros, and isotopes, and inventing the mass spectrometer. Thomson earned the 1906 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of the electron and for his work on the conduction of electricity in gases. In 1918 he became the Master of Trinity College  where he reamained until his death. He died on August 30, 1940

Scientist and Atomic Theory

William

  • Thomson concluded that the atom can not be divided and that the atom must contain positive and negative charged particles.
  • His atomic theory identified that atoms were not invisible.
  • He also stated that electrons were positioned by electrostatic forces.
  • His main contributions were discovering the electron in 1897 and he also discovered the proton.
